I came upon 'Brothers' in a used book store in Tel Aviv. I read a few pages, saw that Tzila meant shadow, and I bought the book, for 20 shekels. I hardly ever read fiction, but the imagery was so distinct. The gleaming Roman soldiers. The fearful state of Jewish society. The abominations. After finishing the book, I saw that Chayym was from Buffalo. I'm from Rochester. Also, I live in Kfar Saba. I was hoping to meet Chayym, but was sorry to read that he passed away. Maybe I'll read some more of his books.
